That was floating in the East River have been identified as Edwin Echevarria. Actually, he was a 65-years-old Manhattan man and his roommate Christan Millet who was just 23-years-old, allegedly killed him. He was trying to dispose of the body by tossing it into the East River inside a suitcase. They used to live at the same address on columbia street, according to the police department.
What was in the suitcase ?
When police identified victim they brought Christan Millet for questioning. Finally, the boy arrested on February 14, 2025 and now in the police custody. Anthony ferry. When the suitcase was discovered, it contained a torso, zipped into a sleeping bag that was stuffed into the suitcase.
How was relationship between both ?
Neighbors told, that Echevarria thought of Millet as a grandson. Family members told the outlet that he was actually the son of his long-term partner. Millet is the son of Echevarria’s longtime partner, and he had been staying at Echevarria’s home. Echevarria ‘s nephew, Eric Maldonado, told the station that Echevarria, who was a postal worker before his recent retirement, was always helping others, kind-hearted, and “If you needed something, he was able to help you.” that it was in his nature.
Authorities say Millet knocked his victim to the ground during a verbal dispute over food that turned physical. While on the ground, he allegedly stomped on Echevarria’s head, stabbed him about 12 to 13 times and dismembered him in a bathtub.
“It’s just a shocker how you can have somebody stay at your home and they just blatantly just take your life as if it’s nothing,” a neighbor said. “And then you sit there and tell the f***ing cops like, oh, I don’t know where he’s at.”
Suspect has been arrested and charged by police department
Millet was arraigned Thursday, and charged with murder in the second degree and concealment of a human corpse. A GoFundMe page has been started to raise money for the victim’s funeral costs. Millet was charged with murder and will be arraigned later Thursday.
